Charging Method: Use a manifold gauge set. Connect to the low-side port. With the engine running and A/C on high, add refrigerant as a liquid (upside-down can) until the low-side gauge reads 15–25 psi at idle.

Verify: Check that the evaporator isn’t flooding—warm the liquid line near the firewall. It should be cool but not cold. Overcharging causes high head pressure and poor performance.

Refrigerant Charge: Do not guess by pressure. The 2012 Accord (4-cyl) spec is 17.6 oz (499 g) ± 0.9 oz R-134a. The V6 is 19.4 oz (550 g). Verify the under-hood label.

Procedure:

  1. Place refrigerant cylinder on a scale, zero it.
  2. Connect to high-side only (engine off) and charge liquid until the scale hits spec (or high/low pressures equalize).
  3. Start engine, A/C max, blower high, recirc on. Finish charging as vapor through low-side until scale hits exact spec.

Critical: Replace the receiver/drier (desiccant bag) and all O-rings with HNBR (green). Torque lines to spec (typically 10–13 Nm / 7–10 ft-lb for #6, 20–25 Nm / 15–18 ft-lb for #8/#10). Add 1.5–2 oz fresh PAG 46 oil total (split between condenser and compressor suction port) unless compressor is new (pre-filled).
